Topic                         : Naga-Akbar Hydari Accord  Region specific      : Nagaland,Assam,India  Effective Timeline  : June 1947 Details                      :  The Accord was signed between then Assam Governor Sir Akbar Hydari with the moderates in the Naga National Council (NNC). The accord stated :  "That the right of the Nagas to develop themselves according to their freely expressed wishes is recognized."  Unfortunately it was rejected by main leader Angami Zapu Phizo as he was not taken into confidence because of the Clause 9 of the agreement, which was interpreted by NNC to be  "giving the Nagas right to complete independence on the expiry of ten-year period", whereas the Government of India interpreted the agreement in the light that Nagas had the freedom only to suggest revision of administrative pattern afte...
